Cleveland Clinic Akron General was rebranded by the Cleveland Clinic in 2015 and included the flagship medical center, Lodi Community Hospital, and Edwin Shaw Rehabilitation Center.

 

Founded in 1914 as Peoples Hospital, Cleveland Clinic Akron General is a not-for-profit healthcare organization that serves as the hub for Cleveland Clinic's Southern Region. The organization is composed of a 532-registered-bed teaching and research medical center in downtown Akron, a critical access hospital in Lodi, a visiting nurse service, a premier physician group practice comprised of both primary and specialty care and Health & Wellness Centers in Bath, Green and Stow.

Akron General is Joint Commission accredited and has also received its Gold Seal of Approval ™ for stroke care. It is Summit County's first Accredited Chest Pain Center, meeting strict criteria from the Society of Chest Pain Centers and Providers. A Level I Trauma Center, as designated by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), Akron General offers the technology, expertise and staffing to treat all injuries regardless of severity. Operating rooms, diagnostic services and trauma specialists are on-call 24 hours a day. In July 2018, Akron General opened a new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department that more than tripled the size of the department and will help expedite the process from admittance through discharge.

Cleveland Clinic Akron General has been honored by U.S. News and World Report as one of America’s best hospitals and received Magnet status from the American College of Nursing.
